Israel’s aerial operations in Lebanon have escalated to a level of intensity similar to the initial weeks of its bombardment in Gaza last year, according to air warfare expert Emily Tripp, director of the UK-based monitoring group Airwars. In an interview with CNN, Tripp highlighted that the intensity of the current operations in both Lebanon and Gaza surpasses what Israel’s allies have conducted over the past two decades.
Tripp stated that the situation in Lebanon mirrors the early phases of the Gaza conflict, emphasizing the chaotic and complex nature of modern warfare. “War is messy and complicated, and militants embed themselves in civilian neighborhoods, which inherently puts civilians at risk,” she noted.
The expert pointed out that the distinctions between front lines have become increasingly blurred, especially in densely populated areas. Despite these challenges, Tripp argued that the responsibility to protect civilians should remain a priority.
She criticized the notion that the complexities of warfare could justify a lack of measures to safeguard civilian lives, suggesting that it is essential to uphold humanitarian standards even in difficult operational environments.
