At Least Four Killed in Military Vehicle Ambush in Kashmir
In a recent attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, at least four individuals, including two soldiers, lost their lives when armed assailants ambushed a military vehicle. This incident marks the fourth attack in the region within the last two weeks.
The Indian Army reported an exchange of fire with militants late Thursday in the Gulmarg area, close to the heavily fortified border that separates Kashmir from Pakistan. Among the deceased are two army porters, and three soldiers sustained injuries during the assault.
In response to the attack, a significant search operation was initiated to locate the militants responsible. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to the affected area. Security forces have been utilizing drones and helicopters to survey the surrounding forests for any signs of the attackers.

Kashmir has been a contentious territory since India and Pakistan gained independence from British rule in 1947. Both nations claim the region in its entirety, leading to a prolonged conflict that has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands, including soldiers, civilians, and fighters.
Following the attack, the authorities shut down the Gulmarg cable car, a popular tourist destination located about 12 kilometers from the attack site. This precautionary measure aims to ensure the safety of tourists and staff members in the area, which attracts around one million visitors annually.
Earlier in the week, a violent incident occurred in which six migrant workers and a doctor were killed when gunmen opened fire near a tunnel construction site. In July, nine soldiers were also killed in two separate attacks in the region.

The Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, condemned the latest attack and expressed his serious concern regarding the recent increase in violence in the area on social media.
For decades, anti-India groups have been engaged in an armed struggle, either seeking independence for Kashmir or its integration with Pakistan. The Indian government maintains a permanent military presence of approximately 500,000 soldiers in the region it controls, frequently accusing Pakistan of supporting the insurgents, a claim that Islamabad denies.
