Netanyahu’s Holiday Home Targeted by Hezbollah in Drone Strike

Hezbollah claims 'exclusive responsibility' for drone attack on PM's home; rejects ceasefire talks while fighting continues | The Times of Israel

Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s holiday residence in Caesarea, located in northern Israel. This claim was made by Mohammad Afif, the head of Hezbollah’s media office, during a press conference held on October 22, 2024. Afif stated that Hezbollah, referring to itself as the “Islamic Resistance,” had launched the operation targeting Netanyahu’s home.

The drone attack, which occurred the previous week, involved the launch of three drones from Lebanon. One of these drones successfully hit Netanyahu’s holiday residence. However, according to the prime minister’s spokesperson, Netanyahu was not present at the time of the attack, and no casualties were reported.

During the press conference, Afif warned that if Netanyahu had been unharmed in this recent attack, Hezbollah could take further action in the coming days. His statement appeared to signal that the group might plan additional operations of a similar nature in the future. Afif also dismissed any possibility of negotiations with Israel while the ongoing conflict between the two parties persists.

Furthermore, Afif acknowledged that some of Hezbollah’s fighters have been captured by the Israeli military. He emphasized that Israel’s behavior during the conflict did not adhere to the “ethics of war” and placed responsibility on Israel for the safety of the captured Hezbollah fighters.

In response to Israeli strikes on Hezbollah-affiliated targets, including the financial institution al-Qard al-Hassan, Afif said Hezbollah had anticipated such an attack and had taken necessary precautions. He assured that the group would take all necessary steps to fulfill its commitments to depositors in the financial firm.

The drone attack on Netanyahu’s residence has led to Israeli retaliation. Israel launched airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs shortly after the incident and has continued to carry out attacks since. These strikes are part of a broader military campaign that has been ongoing for over a year, characterized by frequent exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah.

In a particularly intense episode, on September 23, Israel carried out a massive bombardment of Lebanon and later deployed ground forces. This escalation followed nearly a year of cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. Lebanese health authorities report that more than 2,500 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since October 2023.

Hezbollah’s claim of responsibility for the drone attack and the broader conflict with Israel highlight the ongoing tension between the two sides. Despite efforts to maintain security and stability in the region, the hostilities have only escalated, with each side blaming the other for the continuation of violence.
