Regional Tensions Reach New Highs with Israeli Strikes in Beirut and Deadly Gaza Toll

Israel bombs Beirut, UN says Israeli forces targeted Gaza’s health system

Israel carried out a series of airstrikes on Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, with at least 10 bombings reported overnight, resulting in casualties. Across Gaza, Israeli airstrikes killed a minimum of 95 individuals on Thursday, the majority of whom were civilians located in the northern, heavily besieged area of the enclave, according to medical sources.

In a recent report, the United Nations stated that Israel has been implementing what it described as a “concerted policy” aimed at dismantling Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure. This includes specific attacks targeting medical staff and facilities, actions the UN claims constitute war crimes. The damage to Gaza’s healthcare system and the targeting of medical workers have further escalated concerns over the humanitarian crisis in the region.

In separate events, rocket strikes carried out by Hezbollah in northern Israel have resulted in seven casualties, including four foreign workers and three Israeli citizens, marking the deadliest day for civilians in northern Israel in recent months.

Since the start of the ongoing conflict, approximately 43,204 Palestinian residents in Gaza have lost their lives, and about 101,641 have been injured following the extensive Israeli air raids that began on October 7, 2023. During the initial wave of hostilities led by Hamas that day, 1,139 individuals in Israel were killed, with over 200 taken captive.

In Lebanon, the conflict has also led to significant casualties, with the Lebanese Health Ministry reporting that 2,865 people have been killed and 13,047 injured since the outbreak of hostilities in Gaza. Over the past 24 hours alone, Israeli strikes in Lebanon have claimed the lives of 45 individuals, further intensifying the violence and humanitarian toll across the region.
