President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of Fujian Province in eastern China taking a leading role in the nation’s modernization efforts. During a recent inspection tour of the coastal region, Xi, who serves as both the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the chairman of the Central Military Commission, articulated his vision for the province to adhere to its development objectives.

Xi’s call for Fujian to enhance its role in modernization reflects a broader strategy aimed at establishing a robust modern economic framework. He underscored the necessity for the province to continue making significant strides in this regard.

On his tour, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, Xi first visited Dongshan County in the city of Zhangzhou. There, he engaged with local fishermen and explored the market for dried seafood, gathering insights into the fishing harvest from a nearby village. This visit was particularly meaningful for Xi, who had been to the village 23 years earlier. He expressed his joy at witnessing the considerable transformations that have occurred over the years. Xi conveyed his belief that China’s rural areas are set for an even brighter future as the country embarks on a new journey in this evolving era.

Subsequently, Xi toured the Gu Wenchang memorial hall, where he learned about the significant contributions of Gu, a former Party chief of Dongshan. During this visit, Xi urged officials at various levels of government to draw inspiration from Gu’s legacy and strive to earn the trust and recognition of the communities they serve.

At the Guandi cultural industrial park, Xi focused on local initiatives aimed at safeguarding cultural heritage and fostering cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Strait. He acknowledged the importance of preserving cultural identity while promoting interaction and understanding among different regions.

On Wednesday morning, Xi visited the Xiamen Area of China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone. Here, he encouraged local authorities to remain adaptable to changing circumstances. He emphasized the need for a sustained commitment to institutional reforms that promote opening up the economy and achieving notable advancements in enhancing high-level openness.

Xi’s inspection tour not only highlighted the specific initiatives and developments within Fujian Province but also served as a reminder of the overarching national goals of modernization and economic reform. Through his engagement with local communities and officials, Xi aimed to reinforce the importance of grassroots efforts in achieving broader development objectives. His focus on cultural preservation and economic adaptation reflects a holistic approach to modernization, one that values both heritage and innovation.

President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Fujian Province underscored the critical role that this region is expected to play in China’s modernization agenda. By fostering a modern economic system and prioritizing cultural heritage, Fujian is positioned to lead the way in achieving national development goals. Xi’s interactions with local officials and communities exemplified the commitment to responsive governance that is essential for the success of such initiatives.
